The Baroque and The Classicism (El Barroco y el Clasicismo)

IS IT FROM THE BAROQUE OR FROM THE CLASSICISM?

The Baroque period (El Barroco)
About 400 years ago nobles love having concerts and dances in their palaces.
This was the origin of chamber music.

The first famous composers such as Johann Sebastian Bach or Antonio Vivaldi worked for kings, composed for them and conducted the musicians during the concerts.

The small instrumental groups got bigger until the orchestra was born. Opera also appear. It was a way to enjoy music and theatre at the same time.

The Classicism (El Clasicismo)
About 100 years later, composers such as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Ludwig Van Beethoven didn't want to work for others and started to write the music they wanted.

The orchestras got bigger and included new instruments like the piano and the clarinet.

The first concert halls appeared in the towns.

The tie (la ligadura) and dotted notes (el puntillo)

HOW LONG IS IT?
The tie join two or more musical notes of the SAME PITCH. It adds their lengths together.

Dotted notes or rests are sound-lengthening signs. When we write a dot on the right of notes and rests, it increases their value by a half.

The semibreve (la redonda)

HOW LONG IS IT?

The semibreve is the longest note value. It lasts four beats.La redonda es la figura más larga. Dura 4 tiempos.

The semibreve rest also lasts four beats. We write it below the fourth line of the stave.
